Designed for the Medicare population in managed care settings
The Medicare Health Outcomes Survey (HOS) is a survey designed for the Medicare population in managed care settings. It assesses an MCO’s ability to maintain or improve the physical and mental health of its Medicare members over time.
The goal of the HOS is to gather valid, reliable, clinically meaningful data that can be used to:
- Target quality improvement activities and resources
- Monitor health plan performance and reward top performing health plans
- Help beneficiaries make informed healthcare choices
- Advance the science of functional health outcomes measurement, quality improvement interventions, and strategies
The standard HEDIS protocol for administering the Medicare HOS Survey employs a combination of mail and telephone survey administration. The main data collection technique is a mailing of surveys to sampled members. If members fail to respond after two mailings, survey vendors attempt at least six telephone follow-up calls. |
